Have you tried Trenton’s best local coffee shop?
We sat down with Diane, owner of State Street Coffee, to find out why this spot is one of Trenton’s favorite places!
What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
“Being in the community and meeting the people coming in listening to what they're going through and sharing their days and being able to be the happy part of their day, and finding a great drink that they like. A lot of people come in and they say that, you know, I'm not really a coffee person, but I want to get into it. I love being able to teach them, and pass the knowledge that we get from you guys on to them.”
How long have you been involved in the coffee industry?
“We haven’t been in the coffee industry very long, about a year. I like to go to coffee shops. I like their atmosphere, being able to meet people and just hanging out there. Then the desire to get into coffee was realizing that Trenton really was in dire need of a good coffee shop, and we had the entrepreneur blood and I said, ‘you know, let's do that to get in the community. Let's do coffee!’
God really kind of laid it on my heart to get into the community. And I think coffee was the avenue.”
How did YIELD help you with your coffee program?
“My favorite thing about YIELD is their passion for people and helping others. Derek worked with me, and we found some stuff that we liked and ended up you know, he got to blend together for me. Their education process is great, because they're so free with their knowledge, they want you to know and they want you to learn.
There was so much support that they gave us before opening, and then when we opened, they had one of their people there every single day for the first three days we open. Andrew, Hannah, and Derek each brought something different to our staff and, and to me at to during the process. Derek brought an oversight to the shop and the staff and the management of it. Hannah brought neatness of the bar and skill. And then Andrew helped us survive with making the drinks and got our staff to a point where they could make decent drinks.
I felt that each one of them wanted us to succeed as much as we did.”
What’s your go to coffee order?
“The hot and iced lattes are at the top of the list for customers but we also do coffee flights and you can mix it up with whatever you want to try! We have people who drive down from Columbus to get those! My personal favorite drink though is the cinnamon latte.”
Do you have any exciting plans for State Street in 2022?
“We would love to branch out into the companies that we have in Trenton! I would like to be the name that rolls off their tongue when they want to cater their morning meetings.”
